This certainly sounds better than 'accidentally erasing 18 minutes of tape'

Cheryl Mills, assistant White House counsel, had her auto broken into just blocks from the White House.

Along with $441 in cash and property, a binder labeled variously as "Waco Hearing" and "Original" and "confidential document Senate deposition hearing (original)" was stolen, according to the Washington Post. It was reported Saturday, 15 July 95. The incident occured Tuesday around 11:15 p.m. near 22nd and "H"

The FBI, Secret Service, and DC police investigated the incident.
(I am assuming "investigated" implies "completion.")

I don't know which is more unbelievable -- the "smash & grab" scenario, or that a White House lawyer would leave sensitive documents in a vehicle (with cash) on a DC street. This lady should be running the Defense Intelligence Agency. ;-)

But, then again, maybe the desired effect has been achieved. Now that the originals are gone, maybe we can substitute what we want on the "copies." ;-)
