The Spartans are currently based at Laker Airfield. It's in a fairly rural section of Port Moseby.
Base Commander: Lieutenant-Colonel Graf Lothar Von Kang. A spit and polish ex-aerospace jock. An avid hunter and horseman. He owns an estate nearby.
LCAF
assets:
AERO Wing
VTOL Battalion
Base Security
The Spartans have two buildings near Coven. One is for offices, admin, and supply. The other is a barracks.
Mess and other base services are shared with the LCAF. The base has separate Enlisted, NCO, & Officers mess & social clubs. No mixing is allowed. The Officers mess enforces a dress code, including formal uniforms for evening meals.
Of course, the quality of service and goods varies widely. The Enlisted club is a simple pre-fab building with a very simple menu of food and liquors (on the plus side, the beer is local, cheap, and quite good).
The NCO club is a bit better in construction and services. The O-Club is very solid, with a full menu, and an attractive wait-staff. You can even expect live entertainment on the weekends.
The base has a gym equipped with an extensive weight training facility, a fencing area, and matted areas for personal combat training.
There are also firing ranges, including an indoor pistol range. The outdoor range is mostly used by the Air Cav unit. The Spartans can schedule time on it. The indoor range is maintained by the MP platoon. It is considered 'officer country'. The primary users are the base command staff, and the Aeropilots. Spartan officers & pilots have an open invitation.
Base parameter is 3 meter fence topped with razor wire. There are numerous motion detectors & vid monitors with I/R. 3 gates, 2 for road traffic & one for mech traffic. They are manned by LCAF MP assigned to base security.
Local town is Katzenberg, 12 km away. You can find all the usual base town attractions and problems.
The commander of the Air Cav unit is Kommandant Rudolf Koch. A hairy chested, beer drinking, two fisted warrior. His unit views themselves as 'life takers & heart breakers.' He is ready to put his troops up against anybody, anytime. He likes to win, but is a fair loser, even though he hates it. You can be sure that he'll be back, tougher the next time.
There is some hostility between the MP unit & the Air Cav unit. This includes the softball league & marksmanship competitions. Not to mention the occasional bar brawl.
The Aerospace unit is a collection of survivors. Leftovers from units chewed up in the Corridor War. They are there for refit & some cases psych eval. One of the Chippewa pilots, Galoway Kaine, is buttoned down a bit too tight. He oversees all work on his craft, making sure that all damage & defects, real or imaged, are fixed to his exacting standards. He also insists on having his old unit insignia painted on his craft.
On the other hand, one of the Seydlitz pilots, Foster DeKelly, flies as though he has a death wish. He is constantly attempting NOE flight, well below the listed specs for the craft. His wingman, Terrence Yamata, thinks that DeKelly is out to kill him as well. Even the wild & woolly Carter Twins thinks this man is a safety hazard with wings.
Astechs assigned to the Spartans come from the local LCAF pool. Mostly youths aged 13-17.
Each astech squad has a "senior member". Each platoon has a LCAF noncom assigned to it. The noncom is responsible for their training & well being.
Those who are not kids (about 10%), are LCAF regular Astechs cycled off the front. They are from various units. Some are still a bit battle shocked.
The kids are LCAF cadets. Mostly for technical jobs, some preparing for infantry, and the occasional MW training wash out being prepped for tech or armor positions.
Spartan's admin building:
Guard at door, either Spartan gunt or tech, with a radio headset that is linked to the Ops Center
Barracks: Senior Officers get their own room. This includes: Captain Steele, Lft. Quinn, Lft. Steiner, and Senior Tech Zhio.
Lft. Yadd bunks in her cabin on Coven. The ship's crew also bunks on Coven.
The rest of the Spartans double bunk. This includes: MechWarriors, AeroWarriors, Techs, PBI, and support staff
The LCAF supplied Astechs bunk in LCAF barracks.
The Barracks common room is equipped with local planet net access, card & gaming tables, sound/vid systems.
Space between the two Spartan buildings is available for PT, volley ball
games, or the morning Tai Chi some of the techs do.
A second PT area is a large stretch of tarmac near Coven's blast pit. This
area is large enough to handle Spartans. It is also used for formal gatherings.
Coven is where most mech maintenance goes on.
The ship's mech bay is where most all hands meetings occur. (except for those requiring parade ground formality).
LRM,SRM, & AC rounds for Mechs, Aerofighters & Coven stored in underground arms bunker connected to Coven's launch pit.
