"Our heroes as kids were characters like Hopalong Cassidy and the Lone Ranger. "A gun in the hands of a free man frightens and angers the autocrat, not because he fears the power of the gun, but, rather, the spirit of the man who holds it." -- Anon.
"Here's a small area, DC, pass a statute for DC every gun of every kind, † every firearm, pistol, shotguns, everything, must be registered in 30, 60, † or 90 days, some reasonable period. And any person found in possession of a firearm after that, which's not registered, gets a very, very heavy sentence."† -- Warren Burger, 1992 [such legislation had already been passed in Washington, D.C. 16 years earlier!]
The very notion of "criminal" in the sense that the NRA uses it is very problematic. It implies a rational choice. But the notion that one becomes
a criminal as a rational and conscious choice is silly. ... My point, then, is that what the National Rifle Association casually dismisses as a "criminal" is not so much a criminal as a man in the state of nature,... -- Frank Silbermann, Tuesday 04-05-1994
"At last year's (2000) Mother's Day event in Denver, Jeff Wright was peacefully carrying a sign expressing his support of the Second Amendment, an action the First Amendment affirms is his right. One woman wearing a "Million Mom" T-shirt walked up and spat on him."
In Fort Collins last August, the "Million" Mom group advertised a "public" meeting, so a small group of civil arms activists, led by Bob Glass, showed up to take notes. Million Mom member Cherie Trine described Glass's group to Boulder Weekly columnist Wayne Laugesen as "a neo-Nazi group that wants to terrorize the whole community. They're very anti-Semitic, anti-gay, racist people. They might as well be wearing KKK caps. They're like the people who hate government and want to bomb federal buildings."
In fact, Glass is a Jew who advocates civil rights for everyone and denounces acts of violence. -- Article by David Kopel
"Your gun control policy doesnít have anything to do with public safety, and itís certainly not about personal freedom. Itís about, you donít like the people who do like guns." -- Ainsley Hayes West WingMillion Mom March spokeswomen Barbara Graham was conviced of aggravated assault with intent to kill. She had shot 22-year-old Kikko Smith in the spine, paralyzing him. Police found four handguns, including a TEC-9 in her home. The MMM organization backed her at her trial.
A well-regulated population being necessary to the security of a police state, the right of the government to register and ban arms shall not be infringed.
"The dirty little secret of the anti-gun lobby is that gun laws have never been effective in reducing violence. In fact, the reverse may be true..." -- Michael S. Brown, Doctors for Sensible Gun Laws
"The statistics are in - and gun control doesn't work. Passing additional laws that make self-defense more difficult will never reduce mass murders or any other kind of crime." -- Michael S. Brown, Doctors for Sensible Gun Laws
The people who favor more gun control laws and say we do not need "assault weapons" since the fact that we vote makes tyranny impossible in America are the same ones saying Bush stole the election and seized the reins of power.
Taking umbrage with an NRA letter that referred to HCI as a "gun ban lobby," HCI President Mike Barnes... implied that, because "HCI does not seek to ban all guns," it should not be called a "gun ban lobby." According to that logic, we shouldn't label someone a criminal unless he commits every crime. -- AMERICA'S FIRST FREEDOM, 4/2001
"The right of the citizen to keep and bear arms has justly been considered as the palladium of the liberties of a republic; since it offers a strong moral check against usurpation and arbitrary power of rulers; and will generally, even if these are successful in the first instance, enable the people to resist and triumph over them." -- Chief Justice Joseph Story
"...don't bring a screwdriver to a gun fight." -- Bernhard Goetz
"Let us, for a moment, take the sex-education [proponents] at their word: If you teach a child how to use a condom, you're promoting safety -- not usage. why, then, doesn't the same logic apply to guns?" -- Syndicated columnist Michelle Malkin
Walk Softly........and Carry.
There was talk at my synagogue about posting "Gun Free Zone" signs. I suggested instead that we just post signs that say, "Unarmed Jews Here. Open Season." That was the last I heard about signs.
"An especially dangerous kind of firearms have come to be used, which are called wheelock, with which a homicide can easily be committed. His Excellency, knowing that these are devilish arms, prohibits their being carried without explicit authorization, under penalty of having a hand publicly cut off." -- City Ordinance, Ferrara, Italy, 1523
The evil governments and groups which nurture terrorism have so much to resent about the United States, because so much of the United States is a
demonstration of why freedom prospers and dictatorship and dark ages theocracy fail. -- Dave Kopel
As John Lott, now a scholar at the American Enterprise Institute, details in the second edition of his book More Guns: Less Crime, the introduction of concealed handgun licensing laws leads to a drop of approximately 90% in mass killings in public places. -- Dave Kopel
Now the idea of armed passengers is extremely offensive to the gunphobics who have spent the last thirty years inflicting their aesthetic sensibilities on the America, and turning airports, schools, and too many workplaces into "gun-free zones" - which in practice has meant turning them into criminal safety zones, where it easy to kill a lot of people - especially people who believe that "the best defense is to put up no defense - give them what they want." -- Dave Kopel
You would be surprised at the gullibility of people if you just keep repeating the same lie over and over, such as gun control stops criminals from getting guns.
"Fuzzy-thinkers ask: why retain the Second Amendment, given that crime is ebbing and the government has gone over 200 years without becoming a tyranny? They might as well ask someone with good dental hygiene why he feels the need to brush three times a day, given that he's never had any cavities." -- YHC
"We need to ask ourselves why liberals have made gun confiscation such a priority. I think it is to distract us from the disastrous results of liberal
social engineering. When high-school students shoot their classmates and workers open fire on their co-workers, the fault lies not in guns. It lies in the breakdown in self-control and moral integrity. The irrational shootings are due to the success of liberals in achieving their goals." -- Paul Craig Roberts
"During my trip from being anti-gun to pro-gun, I found that pro-gun folks and sites always were able to answer questions directly. Anti-gun folks and sites always sidestepped questions. That's how I chose sides." -- Ken Yee
"I have yet to hear anyone afflicted with the "gun control" disability dial 9-1-1 and specify, "Now please be sure to send the kind of cops who are disarmed. If you can't do that, we'd rather you not send anyone at all to stop the men who are holding my daughter at knifepoint, because in this household we don't believe that guns ever solve anything." -- Vin Suprynowicz
Mugging is now almost 25% more common in London than in New York, police figures have shown. -- Times of London, Dec 16, 2001 [The UK has a total Firearm Ban]
"If guns are outlawed, only the government will have guns. Only the police, the secret police, the military, the hired servants of our rulers. Only the
government -- and a few outlaws. I intend to be among the outlaws." -- Edward Abbey
"Whatever they are, victim disarmers are not concerned neighborhood moms with whom you've amiably agreed to disagree. They're...lying, thieving parasites who'd rather see a woman raped in an alley and strangled with her own pantyhose than see her with a gun in her hand." -- L. Neil Smith & Aaron Zelman,

"A man walked into an elementary school and struck an 8-year-old girl in the head with a hammer in an apparently random attack ... the girl still had the claw end of the hammer stuck in her head when she was airlifted to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta..."
Good thing there were no guns in this school. Hell, if her teacher had been allowed to carry in school this guy might have gotten hurt, thanks to the gun free school zone laws he made his attack and was unharmed. A good day for victim disarmers. No one died by "gun violence" in this school today.

The original Constitutional purpose for an armed citizenry...is to intimidate the government. -- L. Neil Smith
Homicides have more than doubled in Boston since the 1998 gun law went into effect. 31 homicides in 1999 and 68 in 2001.
"It's time to square off against guns. We are talking a sustained newspaper crusade. That means more reporting, tougher investigative work and stronger editorial pages...Investigate the NRA with renewed vigor. It may be on the run, but its spokesman claims membership ($25 annual dues) is up 600,000 over 10 years ago. Print names of elected officials who take NRA funds. Interview them. Support all forms of gun licensing; in fact, all the causes NRA opposes." -- Former Boston Globe Editor Tom Winship, April 24 Editor & Publisher.
"The NRA has a point about the inadvisability of simply taking guns away from the populace. If that were possible, it would not disarm that small percentage
of the population willing to break the law.... Punishing people who obey the law is backward thinking." -- Hugh Downs, Veteran ABC newsman
When anti-gun activists list the number of deaths per year from firearms, they neglect to mention that 60 percent of the 30,000 figure they often use are suicides. They also fail to mention that at least three-quarters of the 12,000 homicides are criminals killing other criminals in disputes over illicit drugs, or police shooting criminals engaged in felonies. Subtracting those, we are left with no more than 3,000 deaths that I think most would consider truly lamentable.
In 2000, Jay Callaham, a Redcoat reenactor from Virginia, ex-tank officer (USA/NCNG), life member of the NRA and M1A devotee extraordinaire, attended with his unit (3rd Regt., Foot Guards) in his role as a British officer. When interviewed _live_ by Caterina Bandini for Ch. 7, as to why the British were in Lexington and Concord, he answered in character, "Why madam, to seize these guns. Ordinary people should not have guns. We are here, at His Majesty's bidding, to confiscate any guns, arrest the rebels, and if they do not lay down their arms, we will kill them if we must."
"We reject the collective rights and sophisticated collective rights models for interpreting the Second Amendment. We hold, consistent with Miller, that it protects the right of individuals, including those not then actually a member of any militia or engaged in active military service or training, to privately possess and bear their own firearms, such as the pistol involved here, that are suitable as personal, individual weapons and are not of the general kind or type excluded by Miller." -- EMERSON V. US 2001 WL 1230757 (5TH CIR)
After hearing the Second Amendment verbatim, 73 percent in an ABCNEWS.com poll said it guarantees the right to individual gun ownership.
"As a result of my experience, I became interested in the issues... called gun control and decided to investigate the question with an open mind... To my dismay, I reached the conclusion -- without any help from [gun rights groups] -- that good, law-abiding people are being systematically disarmed."
--HILLEL GOLDSTEIN, SHOOTING VICTIM OF NEO-NAZI BENJAMIN SMITH
Guns don't kill people, dorked up political theory kills people.
"I've gotten a lot more grief from gay people for owning guns and supporting the Second Amendment than I ever have from gun owners for being gay." -- Falk, a member of the Pink Pistols
"It's a disease called "Victim Disarmament". Its major symptom is usually a deep seated desire to see women raped and murdered rather then have weapons available to defend themselves." -- Eric Pavao
The Centers for Disease Control's own statistics indicate that firearms are rather far down the roster: Deaths and injuries from swimming pools and falls from ladders annually outnumber those from firearms. Accidental firearm deaths have been declining steadily for nearly 100 years and are now at an all-time low.
"When Wheeler says research proves that the number of people saved by guns is far greater than lives lost and adds that "there are more than a dozen criminology studies that show anywhere from 600,000 to 2.5 million instances each year in which Americans use firearms to defend themselves against violent attack," [Morley] Safer feigns shock." -- 60 Minutes - May 12, 2002

"I am one who believes that as a first step, the United States should move expeditiously to disarm the civilian population, other than police and security officers, of all handguns, pistols, and revolvers...No one should have the right to anonymous ownership or use of a gun." -Professor Dean Morris, Director of Law Enforcement Assistance Administration, stated to the U.S. Congress
Susan Glick of Violence Policy Center, Washington DC: "Sir, we're not hiding behind anything. We we endorse a handgun ban. I will tell you that right now. We absolutely endorse that ban..." "...gasoline, a spectacularly mischievous explosive, dangerously unstable and with the intriguing characteristic as an assault weapon that it can flow under locked doors and saturate bulletproof clothing, is available to anyone with a container. Five gallons of gasoline have the destructive power of a stick of dynamite. The average tank holds fifteen gallons, yet no background check is necessary for dispenser or dispensee. As long as gasoline is freely available, gun control is beside the point." -- John Taylor Gatto, "Underground History of American Education," Chapter 1, page 4
"Great Britain's medieval deodand law, requiring prosecution and punishment of an inanimate object involved in a death, was repealed in the 19th Century, but it is alive and well in Maine. A bill passed the Maine House requiring guns used in a homicide to be destroyed, though other guns seized by police are sold through dealers. The president of Maine Citizens Against Handgun Violence called it a "common sense idea." Deep thinkers from the Middle Ages would agree." --NEAL KNOX

"Gun Control": a political agenda pushed by paranoidcontrol freaks who fear that everyone else is as dangerously irrational as they are. "There is no doubt in my mind that millions of lives could have been saved if the people were not "brainwashed" about gun ownership and had been well armed. Hitler's thugs and goons were not very brave when confronted by a gun.
